diy fabric refresher spray
Every home has fabrics that can use a little refreshment from time to time: curtains, sofas, carpets, and even clothes. Unfortunately, most commercial fabric freshener sprays contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to you and your family's health. Moreover, they can be expensive and wasteful since you have to keep buying new bottles.
Luckily, making your own fabric refresher spray is easy, inexpensive, and eco-friendly. Here's how to do it:
Ingredients
1 cup of distilled water
1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol or vodka
10-15 drops of essential oil (lavender, tea tree, or lemon work well)
A spray bottle (preferably glass)
Instructions
Pour the distilled water and rubbing alcohol (or vodka) into the spray bottle.
Add your chosen essential oils to the mixture. You can use one or more oils depending on your preference. Also, make sure to use high-quality essential oils from a reputable source.
Close the bottle tightly and shake it well to combine the ingredients.
Test the spray on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric to make sure it doesn't stain or damage it.
Spray the solution lightly on the fabric, making sure to cover the entire surface. Don't oversaturate the fabric, or it may become damp and take longer to dry.
Let the fabric dry completely before using it again. The alcohol or vodka will help the fabric dry faster and eliminate any odors.
Additional Tips
Store your fabric refresher spray in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Essential oils can lose their potency if exposed to heat and light.
Shake the spray bottle well before each use to help distribute the essential oils evenly.
Use your fabric refresher spray on fabrics that are not machine-washable or that need a quick refresh before the next wash. It's not a substitute for washing dirty or stained fabrics.
Experiment with different essential oils to find your preferred scent. Some essential oils have antibacterial or antifungal properties that can also help sanitize and deodorize fabrics.
